The Word: Handling Opposition

The Word For Today

Nehemiah 2:19

  1. BUT WHEN Sanballat heard that we were building the wall, he was angry and in a great rage, and he ridiculed the Jews.

  1. But when Sanballat, Tobiah, the Arabians, Ammonites, and Ashdodites heard that the walls of Jerusalem were going up and that the breaches were being closed, they were very angry.

  1. And they plotted together to come and fight against Jerusalem, to injure and cause confusion and failure in it..

  1. But because of them we made our prayers to our God and set a watch against them day and night.

  1. And when our enemies heard that their plot was known to us and that God had frustrated their purpose, we all returned to the wall, everyone to his work.

Nehemiah 4:1,7-9,15

The Lesson

Do not find it strange when people raise up against you whenever you are doing a noble thing.

It is normal for people who carry the spirit of jealousy, (plus those who are not able to do what you do), to get angry at you whenever you are doing a good thing.

As a child of the most high God and whose help is from heaven above, keep focus on what you are doing as ordained by God and God will surely frustrate the plans of those who are up against you.

If in any way they “succeed” over you (in quotes because nobody succeeds against God’s elect ), it can only be a set up by God, that He may later on show Himself strong, the way He showed His might by setting up Pharaoh in Egypt and destroyed the Egyptians by drowning the whole army who had pursued the Israelites before the red sea.

Great and awesome God, we take refuge in You Jehovah God because it is in You alone that we can be safe & secure.

Although our enemies may pursue us, You Lord will frustrate their plans, and if they pursue and overtake us Lord, it will be for our good because Lord it will be a set up that You may glorify Your name when You finally bring them down.

In this Lord we find peace.
